Analyse: Die Akte World Trade Center

the first structures outside of the military and nuclear industries whose design considered the impact of a jet airliner, the Boeing 707. FEMA

An anderer Stelle heißt es:
The Boeing 707 that was considered in the design of the towers was estimated to have a gross weight of 263,000 pounds and a flight speed of 180 mph as it approached an airport; the Boeing 767-200ER aircraft that were used to attack the towers had an estimated gross weight of 274,000 pounds and flight speeds of 470 to 590 mph upon impact. FEMA

Robertson habe 1964 eine Studie "conducted a study in late 1964, to calculate the effect of a 707 weighing 263,000 pounds and traveling at 180 mph crashing into one of the towers. He concluded that the tower would remain standing." [Glanz and Lipton, pp. 138-139, 366]
Robertson took the time to calculate how well his towers would handle the impact from a Boeing 707, the largest jetliner in service at the time. He says that his calculations assumed a plane lost in a fog while searching for an airport at relatively low speed, like the B-25 bomber.

that the towers would remain standing despite the force of the impact and the hole it would punch out. (...) Exactly how Robertson performed these calculations is apparently lost -- he says he cannot find a copy of the report. Several engineers who worked with him at the time, including the director of his computer department, say they have no recollection of ever seeing the study. (...)One architect working for the Port Authority issued a statement to the press, covered in a prominent article in The Times, explaining that Robertson's study proved that the towers could withstand the impact of a jetliner moving at 600 miles an hour. That was perhaps three times the speed that Robertson had considered. If Robertson saw the article in the paper, he never spoke up about the discrepancy. (...) There were only two problems. The first, of course, was that no study of the impact of a 600-mile-an-hour plane ever existed. ''That's got nothing to do with the reality of what we did,'' Robertson snapped when shown the Port Authority architect's statement more than three decades later.

In March 1964, a calculation was made by the Port Authority to determine the period of vibration of the tower due to an aircraft impact at the 80th floor. Although no conclusion was stated on the calculation sheet, it clearly indicates that the Port Authority recognized during the desging stage the possibility of an aircraft impact on the tower. (NIST NCSTAR 1-1, p.71)

Die zweite ist
IS THE MOST COMPLETE AND DETAILED OF ANY EVER MADE FOR ANY BUILDING STRUCTURE. THE PRELIMINARY CALCULATIONS ALONE COVER 1,200 PAGES AND INVOLVE OVER 100 DETAILED DRAWINGS. by the Port Authority from February 1964, titled "Salient points with regard to the structural design to the World Trade Center towers".

Laut dem NIST
"no documents on the aircraft impact analysis are available to review the criteria and methos used in the impact analysis",

"A three-page document.... indicates that the impact of a Boeing 707 airliner flying at 600 mph was analyzed during the design stage of the WTC towers in February/March 1964" (NIST NCSTAR 1-1)

THE STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS CARRIED OUT BY THE FIRM OF WORTHINGTON, SKILLING, HELLE & JACKSON IS THE MOST COMPLETE AND DETAILED OF ANY EVER MADE FOR ANY BUILDING STRUCTURE. THE PRELIMINARY CALCULATIONS ALONE COVER 1,200 PAGES AND INVOLVE OVER 100 DETAILED DRAWINGS.

3. The Buildings have been investigated and found to be safe in an assumed collision with a large jet airliner (Boeing 707 - DC traveling at 600 miles per hour. Analysis indicates that such collision would result in only local damage which could not cause collapse or substantial damage to the building and would not endanger the lives and safety of occupants not in the immediate area of impact.

BECAUSE OF ITS CONFIGURATION, WHICH IS ESSENTIALLY THAT OF A STEEL BEAM 209' DEEP, THE TOWERS ARE ACTUALLY FAR LESS DARING STRUCTURALLY THAN A CONVENTIONAL BUILDING SUCH AS THE EMPIRE STATE BUILDING WERE THE SPINE OR BRACED AREA OF THE BUILDING IS FAR SMALLER IN RELATION TO ITS HEIGHT.5. THE BUILDING AS DESIGNED IS SIXTEEN TIMES STIFFER THAN A CONVENTIONAL STRUCTURE. THE DESIGN CONCEPT IS SO SOUND THAT THE STRUCTURAL ENGINEER HAS BEEN ABLE TO BE ULTRA-CONSERVATIVE IN HIS DESIGN WITHOUT ADVERSELY AFFECTING THE ECONOMICS OF THE STRUCTURE. ...

Leslie Robertson designed the structural elements of the WTC towers to withstand the impact of the largest airliner then in service, the Boeing 707."

"With the 707 however, to the best of my knowledge, the fuel load was not considered in the design."

he [Robertson] told Horizon. Source"To the best of our knowledge, little was known about the effects of a fire from such an aircraft, and no designs were prepared for that circumstance."

The second problem was that no one thought to take into account the fires that would inevitably break out when the jetliner's fuel exploded, exactly as the B-25's had. http://scott-juris.blogspot.com/The%20Height%20of%20Ambition%20Part%20Four.pdf

Skilling's people did an analysis that showed the towers would withstand the impact of a Boeing 707. "Our analysis indicated the biggest problem would be the fact that all the fuel (from the airplane) would dump into the building. There would be a horrendous fire. A lot of people would be killed," he said. "The building structure would still be there." http://community.seattletimes.nwsource.com/archive/?date=19930227&slug=1687698

Tatsächlich bezeichnet das NIST LERA als „the only source that had the detailed knowledge of the design, construction, and intended behavior of the towers over their entire 38-year life span" NIST NCSTAR 1, Seite 92.

Though, it was he himself who stated on October 5, 2001at the Annual Conference of theNational Council of Structural Engineers Associations. "As of 21 days after the attack, the fires were still burning and molten steel was still running." Source (PDF)

I've never run across anyone who has said that they had in fact seen molten metal, or by the way if they had seen it, if they had performed some kind of an analysis to determine what that metal was."

I designed (the World Trade Center) for a 707 to smash into it."A spokesman for Robertson's firm, Leslie E. Robertson Associates of New York City, declined comment but confirmed that the structural engineer had publicly stated that the towers would not buckle if hit by a 707.

The critical load ratio was well over 10.0, meaning that more than nine-tenths of the columns at the same level would have to fail before the weight of the top could have overcome the support capacity of the remaining columns.NIST admits that the web of steel formed by interlocking perimeter columns and spandrel plates were efficient at redistributing loads around the impact punctures. It estimates that loads on some columns increased by up to 35% while loads on other columns decreased by 20%. The increased loads are nowhere near those the designers claimed the columns could handle: increases of 2000% above the design live loads.5. THE BUILDING AS DESIGNED IS SIXTEEN TIMES STIFFER THAN A CONVENTIONAL STRUCTURE. THE DESIGN CONCEPT IS SO SOUND THAT THE STRUCTURAL ENGINEER HAS BEEN ABLE TO BE ULTRA-CONSERVATIVE IN HIS DESIGN WITHOUT ADVERSELY AFFECTING THE ECONOMICS OF THE STRUCTURE. ...--City in the Sky, p 134-6
"live loads on these [perimeter] columns can be increased more than 2000% before failure occurs."--John Skilling, in Engineering News Record, 4/2/1964

Glanz and Lipton fassten Ihre Untersuchungen in einem "white paper" zusammen:
The Vierendeel trusses would be so effective, according to the engineers' calculations, that all the columns on one side of a tower could be cut, as well as the two corners and several columns on the adjacent sides, and the tower would still be strong enough to withstand a 100-mile-per-hour wind.--City in the Sky, p 133Yet, even the more severe cases did not seem to put undue stress on the surrounding, non-failed columns, causing only two columns to load beyond the nominal maximum. "Figure 8-10 shows that only two columns had a demandto- capacity ratio greater than 1.0." (NCSTAR 1-6 p240 para2)

Thomas Eagar:
Thomas Eagar, an MIT professor of materials engineering who supports the official theory, says that the impact of the airplanes would not have been significant, because "the number of columns lost on the initial impact was not large and the loads were shifted to remaining columns in this highly redundant structure" (Eagar and Musso, 2001, pp. 8-11).
Professor Astaneh-ASL:
Professor Astaneh-Asl of University of California:said "'The [plane] impact did nothing to this building,' he said with admiration." CNN News, Oct 5, 2001.http://archives.cnn.com/2001/US/10/05/inv.attacks.steel/index.html

Auch Frank A. Demartini, on-site construction manager for the World Trade Center, zeigte sich von der Redundanz der Türme überzeugt.
The building was designed to have a fully loaded 707 crash into it. That was the largest plane at the time. I believe that the building probably could sustain multiple impacts of jetliners because this structure is like the mosquito netting on your screen door -- this intense grid -- and the jet plane is just a pencil puncturing that screen netting. It really does nothing to the screen netting.
